Driessen’s 41 sinks Cashmere

Okanogan boys improve to 13-0

— Easton Driessen put the team on his shoulders and scored a career-high 41 points in leading the Bears past Cashmere, 76-72, on Tuesday.

“It’s been a while in winning at Cashmere,” Brewster coach Tim Taylor said. “Neither team was able to break away. It went right down to the wire.”

Driessen, who scored 22 of the Bears’ 25 points in the fourth period (18 straight points at one point), hit free throws in the final seconds to ice the win.

Timbo Taylor finished with 20 points for Brewster, ranked No. 7 in the Associated Press poll released Jan. 16.

“It was a great road win in a great high school basketball atmosphere,” Taylor said.

OKANOGAN – No. 1 state-ranked Okanogan got off to a fast start and kept rolling in a 68-43 win over Chelan on Tuesday.

“It is good to be through the first half of the league without a loss,” Okanogan coach Mike Carlquist said after his team improved to 13-0.

The Bulldogs, who led the 1A ranks in the Associated Press poll released Jan. 16, shot a blistering 53 percent from the field (28-53). That’s despite 2-10 shooting on treys.

Jim Townsend finished with 20 points, Justin Rivas with 18 and Justin VanderWeide with 14 (6-9).

There were 8 blocked shots in the game, with VanderWeide having 4 and Chelan’s Hank Hollingsworth (8 points) having 3 rejections.

COULEE DAM – Lake Roosevelt opened league play with a 66-35 win over Manson on Tuesday.

“Manson was a good chance for us to learn how to get mentally and physically prepared for league play,” Lake Roosevelt coach Matt Simpson said.

Chance Garvin scored 13 points and Taren Redstart added 11 points.

“We contested their 3-ball extremely well, holding them to 4-24 from the 3-point line while we shot 4-8 from there,” Omak coach Kyle Desautel said of the defensive game.

Omak, which shot 42 percent to 24 percent for the Kodiaks, put the game away with a 13-6 run in the fourth quarter.

WINTHROP – Liberty Bell built a 12-point first quarter lead en route to a 59-28 win over Bridgeport on Tuesday.

“I thought it was a good team effort, with four guys in double-figure scoring and nice play as a team on the defensive end as well,” Liberty Bell coach Kyle Acord said.

Logan Szafas scored 13 points, Austin Watson 12, Jaymis Hanson 12 and Willy Duguay 10 for Liberty Bell.

Nain Sanchez scored 6 points for Bridgeport.

The Tigers looked unbeatable early with a 9-0 start and a 25-14 lead at intermission.

Tonasket led 48-46 into the final minute when Quincy, which limited the Tigers to 5 points in the fourth quarter, sealed the win with two free throws with two seconds to go.
