Okanogan pitches shutouts

Soccer teams in final season games

OKANOGAN – The Okanogan High School soccer team finished off back-to-back shutout matches by topping Chelan, 4-0, on Oct. 23.

“We put a lot of offensive pressure on their goal most of the game, but had a tough time scoring,” Okanogan coach Dean Klepec said. “Defensively, we did a great job of keeping the ball on their half of the field.”

Scoring included Alexis Jones from Emmy Engle, Aidan O’Connor unassisted, Amber Duke from Cameron Moses and Emmy Engle from Janice Romero.

“Chelan battled hard and held the strong Okanogan team to only one goal in the first half,” Chelan coach Jim Broome said. “In the second half, Chelan continued to battle hard, but the attack just became too much.”

Omak (3-12 overall, 2-10 league) is at Okanogan (9-5, 8-4) for the Bulldogs senior night at 4 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 29.


TONASKET – Tonasket toppled Omak, 9-0, in a league match Oct. 22.

“Tonasket has improved a ton since last year,” Omak coach Chris Werner said. “They are a force that could go far into the playoffs this year. They have done a great job.”

Kathryn Cleman led the way with 4 goals.

“Our passing is getting a lot better,” Tonasket coach Darren Collins said. “We need to work hard at the small things so we can compete with Cascade and Cashmere.

Collins praised the work of Ashlynn Willis and Kayla Willis, who each scored a goal, on the wings.

“It was a great job overall as a team,” Collins said. “Everyone working hard is what’s been the difference this year.”

Others with one goal each were Jaden Vugteveen, Esmeralda Flores and Kylie Dellinger.

Tonasket (8-5 overall, 7-4 league) is at Brewster (6-7, 5-6) and Omak 3-11, 2-10) is at Okanogan (8-5, 7-4) on Tuesday, Oct. 29.


BREWSTER – Okanogan shut out Brewster, 2-0, on Oct. 22.

The Bulldogs led 1-0 at the half thanks to Emmy Engle knocking a corner kick into the net.

“Brewster played us a lot tougher this time,” said Okanogan coach Dean Klepec, who team won 7-0 in September. “It was a fairly evenly played game with both teams getting opportunities to score.”

“We didn’t score, but we played well,” Brewster coach Alex Sanchez said. “We made a few mistakes and they scored. I am very happy with the effort.”

Omak (3-11 overall, 2-10 league) is at Okanogan (8-5, 7-4) and Tonasket (8-5, 7-4) is at Brewster (6-7, 5-6) on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

OROVILLE – Liberty Bell edged Oroville, 3-2, in a Central Washington League match Oct. 22.

No scoring was received from either school.

Liberty Bell (7-7 overall, 4-2 league) is at Manson (0-10, 0-6) and Entiat (6-7, 2-4) is at Bridgeport (12-1, 6-0) on Tuesday, Oct. 29.

In the final night of the regular season, Bridgeport at Oroville (2-11, 1-5) and Entiat at Liberty Bell on Thursday, Oct. 31.
