Barrel racers gallop at Colbert Arena

— The first race of the National Barrel Horse Association season was a doubleheader May 17 at Colbert Arena off U.S. Highway 97.

“The previous arena record set by Brittney Towers of 15.4 seconds still holds,” spokeswoman Karen Zittel said. “The turnout was great for the first double header of the season.”

The next NBHA WA02 sanctioned race will be Friday, May 3, and Saturday, June 1, at the Tonasket Rodeo Grounds south of town off U.S. Highway 97.

“It will be an open 4D barrel race sponsored by the Tonasket Comancheros,” Zittel said.
