Lewis claims CTL crown

Tonasket’s Field ties for third place

— Ryder Lewis of Omak showed why he was the Caribou Trail League’s Player of the Year by firing a 69 at the league championships May 7.

“Ryder shot his best round of the year and won by eight strokes,” Omak coach Nick Popelier said of the senior’s 2-under-par round.

Lewis leads the district’s Top 19 boys and Top 11 girls to the District 6/7 tournament at 10 a.m. Tuesday, May 14, at Chewelah.

Cameron Daigneau (eighth) and Brandon Abrahamson (11th) join Lewis in Chewelah.

Brianna Duff of Omak also is heading to the tournament.

Daigneau, Abrahamson and Duff are freshmen.

Tonasket freshman Cayden Field, who fired a 36 on the front nine, tied for third at 81.

Okanogan advanced Vanessa VanderWeide (third) and Ana Baum (sixth) for girls and Joey Staggs (14th) for boys.

State Department of Fish and Wildlife Sgt. Dan Christensen recorded this video of the release of a mama bear and her three cubs Friday, Sept. 11, 2015. The bears were captured in a tree at Esther Bricques Winery near Ellisforde. The original video was much longer. We've edited out several minutes of footage between the cubs leaving the first trap and the mama and cub leaving the second trap. Enlarge
