Tonasket tops Raiders in overtime

Triple-double for Smith carries Bears

— Tonasket found a way past Lake Roosevelt, 56-51, in overtime of a non-league game Tuesday.

“Wow, what a fun game,” Tonasket coach Stephanie Schertenleib said. “That game was great for our team and not just because we came out on top. They learned a lot about themselves and their team in this particular game.”

Down the stretch, the Tigers made clutch free throws before taking the lead.

“What is seeming to be our biggest Achilles heel so far this season is our difficulty rebounding the ball on the defensive end and giving our opponents too many second chance opportunities (offensively),” Schertenleib said. “This came back to bite us in the last 30 seconds of the game with us up by two. We gave them at least three extra opportunities to score and they capitalized by tying the game and sending it into overtime.”

Kylie Dellinger scored 13 points and Kathryn Cleman 13 to pace the Tigers.

Lachelle Bearcub scored 19 points for the Raiders.

“It was a good game,” Lake Roosevelt coach Wallace “Peewee” Pleasants said. “I saw improvement in my young team.”
